Safety in Every Step.
Every one of our dog walkers is selected, trained and experienced to deliver next-level care. They are loving, attentive, and safety conscious walkers. Each member of our team is certified dog safe through Walks âNâ Wags Pet First Aid. Beyond people, we have also developed comprehensive safety processes, protocols and technologies such as: air-conditioned vehicles, GPS monitored vans, GPS monitored walks (private walks), optional GPS collars (for off-leash walks), world class walker training and handling certification.
After the Walk Emails
For dogs on our private walks, youâll receive a summary email detailing the dayâs route. Our smartphone app tracks the walk, start and end times, as well as any stops along the way using GPS so youâll have every detail recorded. Photos are included so you can visually enjoy your pupâs walking adventure.

Initial Phone Consultation / Dog Requirements
If this is your dogâs first time with us, please take a few minutes and book a time to talk with Horeb Medina, of our Care Team, who can answer any questions you may have. Horeb will ensure that we have your pup set up with the walk that is just right for them. You can easily book using our online calendar, simply click here.
In order to ensure that all the dogs on our group excursions have a safe and fun time, we ask that every dog must:
- Exhibit positive social behaviours with other dogs and people
- Have had up-to-date vaccinations, titre tests, or release form (See our vaccination policy)
- Have a âclipâ collar, martingale or buckle collar (no choke chains or pinch collars)
- Have a valid license on their collar if required by the City
- Be spayed/neutered to participate
- To ensure the safety of the other dogs, the public, and our team, Release the Hounds cannot take dogs with aggressive tendencies on our group off-leash hikes and walks. Private walks and training walks are available for dogs with behavioural challenges.
Meet Alison, Your North Vancouver Dog WalkerâŚ..
At Release the Hounds, all of our team members are dog-loving and skilled handlers, providing the best dog walking possible with the utmost reliability and professionalism.
Alison was born and raised in Vancouver, and has always loved animals. Growing up she had a cat, rode horses, and when she was 16 her family finally got a dog – a springer spaniel named Tynan. She has been a dog person ever since!
After working as a paralegal, Alison decided to take a break from the office and try working with dogs full time. She received mentorship from two trainers in East Vancouver, and started working with dogs including dogs dealing with anxiety and aggression. Over a year and a half later she loves it so much she can’t imagine doing anything else!

Explorer (1.5 hour) North Vancouver
Your dog will embark on adventures through forests, Lynn Valley, or play at North Vancouver’s best off-leash dog parks on the 1.5 Hour Explorer. Perfect for high endurance dogs, our professional dog walkers will provide your dog with plenty of trailblazing to burn off all that extra energy in a fun and safe environment. The Explorer dog hikes are available Monday to Friday and, depending on your geographic location, are available in both the morning and afternoon. Morning Adventure hikes: pick-ups begin between 8:30 â 10:30am. Drop-offs are between 11:30am â 1:30pm. *Please note that due to potential traffic, construction, or weather constraints, all pick-up and drop-off times are approximate.

Description:Â Ambleside Park is a beautiful beach side park looking across to Stanley Park, the Lions Gate Bridge and the inner harbour and English Bay. The eastern section of the park, save for an exercise area for humans, is all off leash. Dogs can swim in the ocean or play on the beach. A sea-wall walk is a nice stroll and there are a couple of fields for chasing balls and what have you. There is some fencing restricting access to the Pitch and Putt golf course, otherwise is it a wide open area and most of the dogs are quite friendly. The forest from the Park Royal side of the area is riddled with many trails.

Description:Â To get to Lynn Headwaters, cross the Lions Gate Bridge, turn right at the end of the bridge into North Vancouver and then turn left at Capilano Road. Follow Capilano Road up to the intersection with Highway #1. Take the sign that says Route 1 East. Stay on the Highway until you reach the Lynn Valley exit, about 3 kilometres. Exit the highway and turn right at the signal onto Lynn Valley Road. Stay on Lynn Valley Road until it dead ends at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park.

Description:Â You can find Lynn Canyon Park by following the same route you take to get to Lynn Headwaters; however, donât drive to the end of Lynn Valley Road. Instead, go along Lynn Valley Road only as far as Peters Street. It goes off to the right as youâre driving north. Take Peters Street to the end and watch for signs that lead you to Lynn Canyon Park.

Description:Â To get to North Vancouver, cross the Lions Gate Bridge and go right toward North Vancouver. Capilano Road, just east of the Lions Gate Bridge exit, provides access to several trails. If you go north on Capilano Road, youâll pass Capilano Regional Park with its extensive network of trails, Cleveland Dam with trails that connect with those of Capilano Park.

Description:Â Two great dog walks follow Mosquito Creek. To get to either, cross Lions Gate Bridge, turn right at the end of the bridge into North Vancouver and then turn left at Capilano Road. Follow Capilano Road up to the intersection with Highway #1. Follow the sign that says Route1 East. Stay on the Highway to the next exit, Westview. Exit the highway and turn left at the signal at the of the ramp.
Follow Westview to Queens Road, about .5 km., and turn left onto Queens Road. Pass the Griffin RecCentre on your left, and just past the RecCentre, turn left onto the road that leads to a lower parking lot. Follow the road past the parking lot to where it ends and park your car. Pass the barriers, and cross the bridge on your right. Follow the trail as it bends to the left. After a short distance it will come to the creek and then will parallel the creek for about 2 km.
To get to the upper Mosquito Creek trail, follow the directions to Westview, but instead of turning at Queens Road, continue up Westview to Evergreen. Turn left on Evergreen and follow it as it skirts the tiny Delbrook Plaza mall. Find a place to park near the end of the road. Itâs only about 100 meters long. Youâll see a set of stairs that leads down to the creek and a bridge that crosses the creek. Cross the bridge and turn right. The trail, very popular with both dogs and their companions, goes north for about 2 km.

Description:Â To get to the West Powerline trail, follow the directions for Mosquito Creek. However, instead of turning at Evergreen, stay on Delbrook (Westview becomes Delbrook after Queens Road) and follow it as it winds north to Montroyal Road. Turn left on Montroyal and follow it past the firehouse and across Mosquito Creek. At the next intersection, turn right onto Skyline Drive. Be careful because about three blocks above Montroyal, Skyline turns sharply to the right. Park your car near the orange gate on your left at the beginning of the trail. The Powerline trail goes west from the gate about 2 km to the bottom of the Grouse Mountain Skyride. Itâs another popular local dog walk with several creeks and streams, some good city views and a beautiful little bridge.

Description:Â Seymour River trail begins at the end of Riverside Drive. To get to Riverside Drive, go east along highway 1 and exit at the Mt Seymour Parkway. Follow the signs onto Mt Seymour Parkway. Go along Mt Seymour Parkway to Riverside Drive and turn left onto Riverside Drive, which parallels the Seymour River. Follow the road to the end.
If you visit in the summer, you wonât be able to park at the end of the road, but you might way to drive to the end of the road so you know where youâll be going before you backtrack and find a place to park.
Please note that all North Vancouver off-leash dog parks require dogs to be well behaved, have a current license, be leashed outside of off-leash areas, and their owners must clean up after them; no exceptions.

The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia.
It is an especially great organization to get involved with to either volunteer, fundraise, or if you are looking at expanding your family, adopt/foster.

Animal Welfare Shelter: North Vancouver
The North Vancouver Animal Welfare shelter provides a temporary home for animals until a responsible life-long home can be found. While at the shelter, animals receive quality medical care, nutrition, socialization, exercise, and behavioural training.
